Both programs are about 2.5-3 years to complete , student loans of $ 50 - 70k, but the OT program has a few more prerequisites . I'll start in any profession in my 40 and will be there until retirement. It's a race more challenging then the other age, or what makes a difference? Also the program by PreReqs OT . • 7What should I get my undergraduate degree in before I get my masters in Occupational Therapy?

I am currently a sophomore nursing major , but I'm not interested. I met with occupational therapy and I am in love with her . I want to focus on geriatrics and works in a nursing / retirement . Here's the problem I do not think nursing is for me , so I was thinking about changing majors. I read online that no matter what my undergraduate major is in time with the required pre reqs for grad school . Should I put up with breastfeeding , the risk is to hate and have a low GPA to apply to graduate school with , but have a degree of recourse ? Or should I choose an easier major like psychology or sociology for my GPA as close to 4.0 as possible to help get into the best graduate school, but now we have a fall back career deffinate . .. ? I'm not that interested nursing / motivated about ... but I am tempted to keep it just for job security , even though I hate it. ... any advice?

  • 8Choosing a major:psychology,occupational therapy,occupational therapy assistant,physician assistant,teaching?

Right now I'm totally confused what I do in my life . Since I can remember I have always wanted to work in the hospital , but lately I've been thinking about teaching and psychology . I just started college, and I finished my first semester. I took my new classes for next semester , and I still feel safe because I took the mainstream ! After this semester I will be totally lost and do not know what to do . I love helping people , and I like to identify what might be wrong . I can also listen to the patient , and give the best advice , but something you would not want to go to school for more than five years. I thought occupational therapist , occupational therapy assistant , medical assistant , and I would like to learn more about these three areas ? If you have something to let me know please. I also thought in psychology if I majored in psychology , what could I do with it ? Besides being a social worker . Any idea how I can decide which way to go?

  • 10Is it too risky to skip a BA degree and go straight for a Masters in Occupational Therapy?

I've been debating whether to go to occupational therapy , mainly because the duration of the program in my school , Texas Tech University. No need to have a BA while I completed the prerequisites . But it is too risky to do this ? What if I can not pass the NBCOT , then I'm really screwed because I went to school for six years and have not gotten anywhere myself! Besides, I 'm not a big fan of hard sciences such as chemistry, biology , etc. ( I heard OT focuses more on sciences such as anatomy , psychology and sociology , I could handle that. ) I can get a bachelor of science the year and then look at school OT , but if I went that route condemn me about going to school for 8 years ( and 88 hours of program TTU ) . It would be nice to hear from OTs who have been through the whole thing , but I'd like someone to respond with useful information . Thank you !
