Entire books have been written on this topic ! But , for starters , behaviorists focus on observable behaviors . If something is not observable , behavioral not think it has any real value . While cognitivists have to do with the thought processes - that are not observable . Cognitivists tend to focus on changing your thinking . Behaviorists tend to focus on changing their overt behaviors .
I am a behaviouist but not entirely agree with the response from Garcia. I am interested in what is measurable . Thus, intelligence is not observable , but the IC can be measured reliably and valid. Also thought processes are now observable with functional magnetic resonance imaging in the areas of the brain light and cognitivist who ignore this will be talking to themselves .
