Where can I find information about animal testing and research in Psychology? related questions

  • 1Where can I find information about animal testing and research in Psychology?

I am currently writing an article on animal research in psychology . I like to include an estimate as accurately as possible the number of animals used each year - preferably broken down by species and , if possible , the discipline in which they are used (ie , Biopsychology , Behaviorism , Cognitive Psychology , etc. ). I have not been able to locate this information . If you are willing and able to point me in the right direction , please include a link or another appointment for you to take note of what is right in my references . Thanks in advance .

  • 2PHD in animal studies--How to find research programs/gain experience before applying?

I am a recent college graduate, and I'm thinking of applying for my PhD compared psych / animal studies. My two main problems here are: a) I was not a psych major as a student, and a doctorate in the psychology department (with a focus on animal studies) I have the hope of getting into has to do with research, dedication and experience. Also I have no counselor or someone to help me on my way. b) I live in New York, where opportunities are limited animal studies. (But I'm open to other internships in psychology, evolutionary studies, etc., and I would be willing to leave NYC) Basically, I have to catch up. I've done internships at places like the Bronx Zoo, lodges and wildlife sanctuaries. Currently Butt'm looking for something more challenging and based on education, rather than just raising animals or volunteer work. I'm applying for a summer internship working / study dolphins, but that is next year. For now I need suggestions on what I should be doing. What kind of work looks good on my application? How I can get lab experience if I'm not enrolled in school? Where I can gain experience in data collection, hours of field research, etc? Finally, I know this is a bit cheesy, but this is all I wanted to do. I have not enough experience in school / practices, but comparative psychology is my DREAM program, work, life ... everything. Its all I've read and loved since I was 9. I have to find a way to demonstrate this department I am applying, because I can not imagine doing anything else with my life. Any suggestions? Thanks :)

  • 6How much, if any, animal testing/experiments should I expect to encounter while getting Psychology degree?

I intend to get my MA and possibly PhD in Clinical Child Psychology. Right now I'm still an undergrad. My psych professors talk about rat labs, their experiences with them in grad school, etc. daily. All things involving animal testing, experimenting, unnatural observation, etc. are COMPLETELY against my belief system. I will not do it, no matter what. There are alternatives to most, if not all, animal use requirements in higher education. What I need to know is how much I should expect to encounter throughout my college education in psychology. If it will involve a lot I may not be able to side step it and I'll need to change my major. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
